As Liberal Member for Denison and Speaker of the House of Assembly nothing will silence long time supporter of the iconic Mother’s Day Classic from strapping on her running shoes for another big year in Hobart.
Elise Archer will again return as a participant and special guest on stage at this year’s event on Sunday 14 May at the Domain Athletics Centre.
“I always look forward to attending the Mother’s Day Classic which is fully embraced by our local community, and promotes such an important message,” Ms Archer said.
“One in eight Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime – touching the lives of friends, family and loved ones. Luckily, survival rates are improving, but there is always a need for more investment in vital research, and support for these women and their families."
“I encourage everybody to come along this year and join me in supporting this worthy cause.”
Mother’s Day Classic CEO Sharon Morris said the event was a powerful day for families and friends to support breast cancer survivors and those who have lost loved ones to the disease, it was also going to be one of celebration this year.
“The MDC has raised over 30 million dollars for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and the events like Hobart has played an enormous role in helping us reach that amazing figure,” Ms Morris said.
“This year marking our 20th year is a testament to everyone who has attended the event, volunteered, or worked for MDC over the years. It’s an amazing achievement."
“We want to celebrate the enormous contribution the Mother’s Day Classic has made to breast cancert research. We have more to do, but before looking focusing on the enormous challenge that faces us in the future it’s important to celebrate the success of the past.”
The Mother’s Day Classic will be held in more than 100 locations, from capital cities to remote towns, all around Australia.
