Today it is my great pleasure to announce the Tasmanian Government is providing $20,000 funding over the next two years as part of our continued support for the Moonah Taste of the World Festival.

The amount of $10,000 per annum is an increase of $2,000 per year.

Moonah Taste of the World Festival is held annually at Benjafield Park in the heart of my electorate and is an event which I have personally supported and seen grow in popularity every year since it started.

The event celebrates cultural diversity, multicultural heritage and social inclusion in the Glenorchy municipality and southern Tasmania - through food, dance, art, craft and music.

The Festival showcases and encourages everyone in our community to celebrate a broad range of cultures including Indian, Bhutanese, Liberian, Tibetan and many more.

The rich cultural diversity that migrant communities bring to Tasmania makes an invaluable contribution to the fabric of our society.

Glenorchy is the most culturally diverse municipality in Tasmania, with 17.8% of residents in West Moonah alone speaking a language other than English at home, compared to an average of 4.5% statewide.

The Tasmanian Government has also been a long-term supporter of the festival and we are pleased to be able to continue this support for the next two years.

The Tasmanian Government is also providing funding of $200,000 over four (4) years to the Glenorchy City Council to support the operations of the old Moonah Arts Centre as a Multicultural Hub.
