Liberal candidate for Denison, Elise Archer, says that the Goodwood pedestrian overpass is in desperate need of an upgrade to make it accessible to people with disabilities and young families.
Elise Archer says she will fight for funding to make this happen.
“Currently, people using the overpass need to be able bodied and people with prams cannot access it because stairs must be used to get onto it,” says Elise Archer.
“A ramp is required to make it accessible to young families, who need to use it to cross the highway safely to take primary school aged children to and from the nearby Goodwood Primary School. It would also make the crossing accessible to those who require wheelchair access to meet Disability Discrimination Act standards.”
The State Government originally set aside $10 million for alignment of Elwick and Goodwood roads and this included the re-development of the pedestrian overpass. I believe this has been abandoned by Labor since the Brooker Highway was classified as part of the National Highway network.”
“Local residents have told me that their Metro bus service is poor and they cross the highway to Glenorchy to do their shopping. Crossing this busy road needs to not only be accessible to all people, but it must also be safe,” says Elise Archer.
