A new Tasmanian television documentary series, Aussie Lobster Men, has finished filming at sea following a $200,000 grant from the Hodgman Liberal Government.

The series follows the real-life dramas of six lobster boats and their crews as they risk it all in search of one of the world’s most prized seafood delicacy, Tasmanian Rock Lobsters.

The intrepid film crew has just spent 10 weeks at sea following the stories of these 25 Tasmanian fisherman in some of the most remote and wild oceans in the world.

As well as showcasing our pristine oceans and incredible Tasmanian Rock Lobsters to the world, Aussie Lobster Men has also provided employment for 12 Tasmanian film crew.

The $1.4 million series was produced by Winning Post Productions and Firebird Entertainment.

Aussie Lobster Men was funded through the Hodgman Liberal Government’s $2 million dollar Screen Innovation Fund, designed to drive production of significant, new and innovative screen projects.

I am also pleased to announce a new program of the Screen Innovation Fund, called Prototype.

Once per year, Prototype will provide grants of up to $25 000 for scripted projects to deliver proof-of-concept content and written documentation to take to the marketplace.

This initiative backs our innovative filmmakers and their ideas with the ultimate aim of increasing investment in our screen industry.

For more information about Prototype and the Screen Innovation Fund visit http://www.screen.tas.gov.au

The Tasmanian Government is proud to support Tasmania’s thriving screen industries, and excited to see Aussie Lobster Men when it hits our screens in 2019.
